Now that you’ve completed your first semester, you must have an idea of what your life will be after 4 years of your engineering and if not, then make it the first step. Figure out what do you wish to do. Why did you take up that course and what wonders can you do with it. Talk to people, your alumni or your seniors, discover opportunities.

Once you are done with Step 1, lets say you wish to grab a job after your B.Tech, acquire the skills which might help you in doing so, those skills can vary from learning a computer programming language for an IT industry job to gaining industry experience for a core Metallurgy job. You can also start by making an investment portfolio from your own savings to get a hands-on experience for the investment banking industry.

Or if you wish to study further, you can gain research experience by contacting eminent professors and scientists in various organisations and institutions like BARC, DRDO, IISc. This might also help you in gaining clarity for your future endeavours.

Do anything, except wasting time by sitting idle at home. I’d say if you just can’t figure out what to do, just take your bag and explore the world. This would be far more valuable than just chilling at home. Ofcourse, you won’t be including this in your CV but this will enhance your soft skills.
