Saoirse Ronan: Rising Star
Saoirse Ronan is a rising star in Hollywood with a special story. Although she was born in New York, USA, she moved to Ireland with her family at the age of three. She grew up in Dublin and she always loved acting. Her first acting jobs were on television programmes at the age of nine, but soon her talent was noticed by famous directors and she was chosen to act in films.
Saoirse nearly won an Academy Award when she was just 12 for her part in the 2007 film Atonement. She is the star of recent films like Mary, Queen of Scots and Lady Bird, which helped make her famous around the world. She also plays Jo March in the new film version of Little Women.
Even though she's famous, Saoirse still has a normal life. In between films, when she’s not staying in London, she likes to spend time with her family in the small town of Howth, Ireland. One of her interests is protecting nature. She is working with the Irish government to create a programme to grow food in ways that don’t harm the environment. She hopes her work will make a better future for everyone. In her words, “This land belongs not to us, but to the ones who come after.”
