St. Joseph's Cathedral St. Joseph's Cathedral is one of the tourist attractions in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam. The cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral and it is located at 40 Nha Chung Street. Its architectural style was described as resembling Notre Dame de Paris. The church was built by the French colonial government. In 1882, after the French army sook control of Hanoi, the cathedral was constructed and completed in 1886. The cathedral and Nha Chung area were built on the land formerly belonging to Bao Thien pagoda. The cathedral is 64.5m in length, 20.5m in width with two bell towers of 31.5m-height. Although the appearance of the cathedral follows HD Western style, the main interior part is decorated in Vietnamese way with two typical colors yellow and red. Dutside, in front of the cathedral is the statue of Mother Maria. The first Christmas took place in the cathedral in 887. Since then, the cathedral is always crowded with hundreds of people including both Christians and non- Christians at the weekend or during religious holidays like Christmas 1.
