Between late January and early February, people in Vietnam celebrate the Lunar New Year or Tết. Tết lasts for three days, but people prepare for it for weeks before. They clean or sometimes repaint their houses. People also make their homes beautiful with colorful flowers, peach blossoms, and kumquat trees. The colors that they usually use are red and yellow as these mean luck and money. During Tết, people go to their relatives' houses and give best wishes to each other. Parents and older relatives give children lucky money in red envelopes. On these days, the streets are often quiet. In many public places, people perform lion dances with drums, bells, and firecrackers.
