Venice has very narrow streets. Cars are not allowed there. But people have other ways to get around. They can walk from place to place. They can also go on canals!
A canal is a waterway built by people. There are many canals in Venice. People can use boats to travel on the canals.
One kind of boat that is used in Venice is called a gondola. It is similar to a canoe. People often think of this kind of boat when they think of Venice.
There are other boats in Venice, too. There are boats that act like taxis or buses. There are police boats. There are ambulance boats. And there are even garbage boats that take away the trash!
