The Sahara desert, the largest desert in the world, is located in Northern Africa. It extends from the Atlantic Ocean eastward past the Red Sea to Irag and lies largely in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya,Egypt, Mauritania, Mali, Niger and Sudan.
The desert has a total area about more than 9,065,000 square kilometers and 1,610 kilometers wide ang about 5,510 kilometers long from east to west. Besides, it composes of arid land and dry climate as the moisture is almost totally absent. The weather is very hot in summer and very cold in the winters as wel. In the desert, there are few oases exist; there are lots of sandy land and large dunes of sand insted. On the other hand, it has some tablelands with an average alevation from 400 to 500 meters.
Because of weather, there are few forms of animal and vegetable life. The main trees are cactus, the date palm and a form of acacia. These tres have small leaves or hard needles to adapt to the dry climate. Besides, only gazelles, antelopes, foxes, jackals and camels can live in this kind of climate.
Nowaday, more and more explorers are interested in the Sahara desert. In the near future, people belive that desert will become an ideal place for relaxation and expeditions.
