READING; Read the passage. Then look at the statements and write TRUE, FALSE, OR NOT GIVENREADING Questions 23-27. Read the passage. Then look at the statements and write TRUE FALSE if the statement is the same as information in the passage if the statement is different to information in the passage NOT GIVEN if there is no information about this in the passage A Many animal species are endangered and could become extinct. Every year, people donate money to help protect these species. However, often the money is just to protect the big, well-known animals like tigers or whales. But what about animals that are not big or popular? Would you give money to help save a rare kind of rat, or an ugly fish, for example? These animals may not look attractive, but often they are important for the environment. B Bats, snakes, and spiders are a good example of this. These animals can seem scary (we often see them in horror movies, for example), so it's hard to convince people to donate money to help them. They can also seem a bit disgusting because of the way they move around, as well as the things they eat. Unfortunately, some kinds of bats, snakes, and spiders are becoming rare because of human activity. If they disappear, it will be bad for the natural world, and also for us, because they help to keep the food we grow free of C insects. The people who work for the EDGE program are trying to save unpopular species like these. Like other conservation groups, EDGE collects money to protect all kinds of rare animals. Since their website shows less popular animals like bats and rats at the top of the page, people see them first. When people click on the pictures, they not only learn why these animals are in danger, but also why these animals are important. When people understand why they need protection, they are more willing to donate money to try and help save them. 23. Each year, millions of dollars are donated to help protect whales.. 24. Some species of bats are in danger due to human activity. 25. Since bats and spiders eat insects, they are important for humans.. 26. The conservation group EDGE works only to protect pandas.. 27. The EDGE website is unusual because it has pictures of unpopular animals.. |
