Exercise 2: Read the following text and choose the best answer for the questions below.
READING 1: Large cities often have problems that small towns and rural areas do not have. Two of the biggest problems are heavy traffic and the pollution that cars create. Of course, traffic problems and pollution are not only found in big cities. However, the higher populations and larger number of cars on the roads in cities can make the problems happen more often and with more noticeable effects.
One of the most common traffic problems the large cities have is congestion. As the population of a city increases, so does the number of cars on the road. Cities cannot always improve the number and size of their roads and highways to keep up with the number of cars. The result is traffic congestion, or traffic jams.
When traffic jams happen, cars that are stuck in the congestion continue to run their engines. This creates pollution and is a big problem. Pollution causes health problems for the people in cities and also hurts the environment.

READING 2: Movies, also known as films, have several genres, but they are made in a similar way. Basically, a screenwriter writes a script, which is the story of the movie with words that the actors and actresses will say. Actors, actresses and directors read scripts to find out what to say and what to do. The actors and actresses memorise the words and learn the actions from the script that they will say and do in the movie. The director tells the actors and actresses what to do and a cameraman takes motion pictures of them.
When filming has finished, an editor puts the moving pictures together. Audio engineers record music and singing and join it with the moving pictures. When the movie is done, many copies of the movie are made and sent to cinemas. An electric machine called a projector shines a very bright light through the movie, and people sitting in a dark room see it on
a big screen. After movies are shown on movie screens for a period of time, movies are shown on television or on DVD so that people can watch the movies at home.

READING 3: In the UK, bus journeys are just boring and simply a necessity. This public means of transportation is often convenient when you live or work in the city centre, as you can avoid traffic jams by moving very quickly in the bus lanes, and do not have to pay to park the car. After all, though, taking the bus is just a necessary and tedious part of life: you board the bus, pay the driver and sit down or find a place to stand. Very boring. In Latin America, however, bus trips can be very lively. For a start, long-distance buses put on films so that you have entertainment for at least some of the journey.
