Vietnamese Lunar New Year, also known as Tet, is the most important holiday in Vietnam. It usually falls between late January and early February and lasts for about a week. Tet is a time for family reunions, traditional customs, and cultural activities.

Before Tet, people often clean and decorate their homes with colorful flowers and ornaments such as peach blossoms, kumquat trees, and red banners with lucky words. They also prepare special foods such as banh chung (sticky rice cake), pickled onions, and candied fruits.

On the eve of Tet, families gather together to have a feast and offer incense to their ancestors. They also light firecrackers and watch fireworks to ward off evil spirits and welcome the new year. At midnight, the first visitor of the year, called "Ong Tao" or "Tao Quan," is welcomed with offerings of fruits, sweets, and wine.

During Tet, people visit their relatives and friends, exchange greetings and gifts, and wish each other good luck and prosperity. They also participate in various cultural activities such as dragon and lion dances, calligraphy contests, and traditional games.

Tet is a time of joy, unity, and gratitude for the Vietnamese people. It reflects their rich cultural heritage, strong family values, and optimistic outlook on life.
