Joe said, "Please come to my party."
Joe invited us to his party.

Mr. Gray said, "Don't play in the street."
Mr. Gray warned the children not to play in the street.

"Would you like to come on a picnic with us?"
They invited us to come on a picnic with them.

"Please don't tell anybody what happened," he asked.
He asked me not to tell anybody what had happened.

"If you don't give me a pay rise, I'll resign."
She threatened to resign if she didn’t get a pay rise.

"I'll finish the work by the end of this week."
John promised to finish the work by the end of the week.
