To truly live green, there are several actions we must avoid. Firstly, we should not underestimate the impact of single-use plastics. According to the United Nations, around 300 million tons of plastic waste is produced each year, and much of this ends up in our oceans, harming marine life. Additionally, we should not neglect the importance of reducing energy consumption. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that about 40% of the total energy consumed in the country is from residential use. By not taking steps to improve energy efficiency in our homes, we inadvertently contribute to higher greenhouse gas emissions. Lastly, we must avoid the habit of unnecessary food waste; the Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that one-third of all food produced globally is wasted, which is equivalent to 1.3 billion tons per year. By steering clear of these harmful behaviors, we can make significant strides toward a more sustainable future.
