Part 1: Sentence Transformations
Linda is so short that she cannot play volleyball well.
We use "so...that" to express cause and effect.
I don't speak English as well as Mary (does).
We use "as...as" to make comparisons. Since Mary speaks better, I speak less well.
In spite of the bad weather, we enjoyed our garden party very much.
"In spite of" is followed by a noun phrase ("the bad weather"). It shows contrast despite a challenge.
She was walking in the rain when she enjoyed it.
The original sentence implies enjoyment during the walk. This version clarifies that enjoyment was while walking.
He swims very well.
We change "is good at swimming" to the verb form "swims" and add "very" to keep the meaning.
Part 2: Paragraph Writing (Example)
Why I Study English
English has become a vital tool in our interconnected world. Firstly, it's the language of global communication, used in business, science, and technology. Being able to understand and speak English opens doors to countless opportunities. Secondly, many resources like books, articles, and research papers are primarily in English. Learning the language allows me to access this wealth of knowledge. Lastly, I want to experience different cultures and connect with people from around the world. English is the key to unlocking these experiences.
How I Master Vocabulary
I believe the best way to master new words is through context. I try to read books, articles, and watch movies in English. When I encounter a new word, I try to guess its meaning from the surrounding sentences. If I can't figure it out, I look it up in a dictionary and write it down in a notebook. I also try to use the new words in conversations to make them stick in my memory.
How I Remember Grammar
Remembering grammar rules can be challenging. I find it helpful to study grammar in context as well. When I come across a new grammar point, I look for examples and try to understand how it's used. I also do exercises and practice writing to reinforce my understanding. Additionally, I use online resources and apps that make grammar learning fun and interactive.
