Many people have recently come up with the idea that examination into university and General Certificate of Secondary Education examination should be combined into one. Generally speaking, this idea can bring up quite a lot of advantages in many aspects.
The examination into university is known as one of the most important and stressful examinations during a student’s life. It’s like a threshold challenging millions of examinees every year since once you step through it, it’s almost for sure that you’re holding in your hand the chance for a better future or a good career; but on the other hand, if you can’t, no one would absolutely know how your future will be. That’s the reason why most students tend to palpitate or flutter before this examination. Another fact that thousands of candidates are coming from the countryside so to fulfill their dreams of getting into university, they have to save a lot of money, pack their bags and go to the cities which are still unknown to most of them. Parents are people who are not less nervous when their children have to face the threshold of the university. How can anyone of us forget the scene where hundreds of parents, family members, well-wishers waiting anxiously outside the exam site whenever the examination is in progress! Combining examination into university and the GCSE into one is definitely a brilliant solution to minimize study pressure for students as well as save money for both parents and the universities.
However, some people doubted whether only one examination would be enough to classify and accurately assess the students’ ability. Moreover, for many General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations, there have been dozens of cases in which parents bribed the authorities, examiners ignored candidates’ cheatings, which led to fake or unfair results. It’s also open to question the Ministry’s possibility to cope with such a large number of candidates, multiple choices of universities, examination subjects… We also didn’t mention the lack of facilities, examiners, and lodgings for students which occurred almost every year.
In conclusion, combining examination into university and General Certificate of Secondary Education examination into one is a controversial solution that needs time and effort to effectuate. But until this solution can come to happen, it’s obvious that a lot of students will have to take both GCSE and examination into university.
