Soil pollution

Definition: Soil pollution is the presence of toxic chemicals (pollutants or contaminants) in soil, in high enough concentrations to pose a risk to human health and/or the ecosystem.

Causes: 

- Illegal dumping of the solid wastes

- Polluted water absorbed by the soil

- Use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides

- Dumping of minerals, oils, and radioactive wastes

Effects:  

- Neuromuscular blockage

- Depression of the central nervous system, headaches, nausea, fatigue, eye irritation and skin rash.

- Obilize inorganic forms

- Increase the salinity of the soil
