Quan niệm thứ nhất: đó là đồng nhất văn hóa Việt Nam với văn hóa của người Việt, trình bày lịch sử văn hóa Việt Nam chỉ như là lịch sử văn minh của người Việt. Quan niệm thứ ba này hiện nay đang là quan niệm chiếm số đông bởi các nhà nghiên cứu, các nhà quản lý trong lĩnh vực văn hóa Việt Nam, vì vậy nội dung về văn hóa Việt Nam sẽ được trình bày theo quan niệm thứ ba, văn hóa Việt Nam theo hướng văn hóa dân tộc.
