Sample 1:

The 20th century witnessed unparalleled advancements in air travel and telecommunications, dramatically enhancing global connectivity. This essay contends that these developments have profoundly benefited societies by fostering more extensive contact and deeper relationships with individuals from other nations.

Those who champion increased global interaction argue that it enriches societies culturally and economically. In Vietnam, for example, the influx of foreign businesses and tourists, facilitated by easier air travel, has significantly boosted the local economy and introduced new cultural perspectives. Local enterprises have thrived, creating jobs and fostering economic resilience. Telecommunications have also played a crucial role; the ability to communicate instantly across borders has not only streamlined international business operations but has also enhanced educational opportunities. Courses taught by foreign professors, once inaccessible, are now available to Vietnamese students through platforms like Coursera and EdX. However, some critics might assert that this rapid integration can lead to cultural homogenization, where local traditions may be overshadowed by global influences.

Nevertheless, I maintain that the benefits of global interconnectedness far outweigh the potential drawbacks. The cultural exchange that results from increased international contact promotes understanding and tolerance among diverse populations. Had it not been for the robust international links, many Vietnamese might never have experienced various cultural festivities such as the Indian Diwali or the Japanese Hanami, which are now celebrated in parts of Vietnam, enriching its cultural tapestry. Moreover, these interactions foster diplomatic relations which are crucial in today's geopolitically charged environment, enhancing peace and cooperative efforts on global challenges like climate change and public health.

In conclusion, while there are challenges associated with global integration, the advantages, particularly in terms of cultural enrichment and economic development, substantially benefit societies. The closer relationships with foreigners brought about by advancements in air travel and telecommunications have indeed made a positive impact, making the world a more connected and harmonious place.

Sample 2:

It is true that international tourism and global trade have been thriving in the last several decades. This has brought great opportunities to local people to interact with foreigners, which eventually benefits societies.

Firstly, the growth of global tourism makes considerable social contributions to society. When the number of foreign tourists increases, the demands for transport, food and services also rise, meaning that the locals can find employment to sustain their livelihood. For example, the unemployment rate in many tourist sites in Vietnam, such as Nha Trang and Ha Long, has significantly decreased due to the influx of international travellers in recent years.

Secondly, a recent boom in global business also improves the quality of the international workforce. Many international companies are flourishing in many parts of the world and employing a number of local workers. These employees are trained to become the skilled workforce later on who will contribute to the economic growth of their countries, as in the case of many Vietnamese workers being hired by Samsungs.

Finally, the world becomes more tolerant than before. The increased interaction between the locals and foreigners helps to stimulate cultural exchange, resulting in people understanding and accepting different cultures that exist. Today, Halloween is not the event of the Irish only, but people from different cultural backgrounds also celebrate this occasion. Obviously, such interaction will encourage cultural diversity in the world that we are living in.

In conclusion, it seems to me that the growth of international tourism and business brings a number of advantages to societies.

Sample 3:

It is sometimes argued that increased contact and closer interrelationships between countries bring several benefits to a society and thank goes to air travel and telecommunication for this. Personally, I believe that there are also some negative effects of the above trend, as will now be explained.

There are some downsides to increased commerce and increased relationships between nations in the world. The most significant of these disadvantages is that it can weaken national culture and traditions. The main reason is that people can easily adopt the aspects of strangers and more interesting lifestyles from foreign countries and usually neglect the traditional values. For example, a stand of Vietnamese folk songs might be gradually faded away because young Vietnamese people tend to opt for more attractive Korean music. The second disadvantage is that in the face of imported goods and services, local producers, especially in a less developed country, fail to compete with foreign ones in their own domestic market, which leads to a number of bankruptcies, then holds back society from development.

There are some major points to make in favour of increased business and closer relationships worldwide. Firstly, it can drive the world's economy forward. Granted, big corporations such as Microsoft and Apple can easily expand their branches in any corners of the world, thanks to increased business interaction, which can also create more employment opportunities, especially in a third-world country. Secondly, revenues from tourist activities can contribute to the economic growth. Undoubtedly, tourism jobs such as photographers and tour guides can help increase income for the locals. Finally, the more we share habits, products and services, the better we understand each other, and this reduces prejudice against other nations.

In conclusion, I believe that the closer contact and increased commerce worldwide bring about both cons and pros and cheap air flights and mobile communication have accelerated that.

Sample 4:

In the 20th century, the world has witnessed a remarkable evolution in global connectivity, primarily driven by advancements in air travel and telecommunications. This essay willexplore the extent to which societies have reaped benefits from this increased contactand closer relationships with foreigners, specifically through international tourism andbusiness, while also considering the Vietnamese perspective.

The first point to consider is the cultural enrichment brought about by internationaltourism. Vietnam, a nation with a rich cultural tapestry, has experienced a significant influxof tourists. This interaction has fostered a mutual exchange of cultural values andpractices. For instance, the introduction of international culinary styles has enriched theVietnamese food scene, while Vietnamese traditions like Tet, the Lunar New Year, havegained broader recognition. However, it is crucial to note that this cultural exchange cansometimes lead to the dilution of local traditions, as global influences might overshadowindigenous customs.

On the business front, international contact has undeniably catalyzed economic growth. The Vietnamese economy, for example, has seen a surge due to foreign investments andcollaborations. Such business interactions have not only spurred economic developmentbut have also facilitated the transfer of knowledge and technology. If Vietnam hadremained isolated, it is unlikely that it would have achieved its current level oftechnological advancement and economic prosperity. Yet, this increased contact does notcome without drawbacks, as it can lead to economic dependency and sometimes evenexploitation.

In conclusion, while the cultural enrichment from international tourism and the economicboost from global business contacts have positively impacted societies, includingVietnam, there are downsides to these developments. It is essential to maintain a balancewhere cultural integrity is preserved and economic relationships are equitable. Ultimately, the benefits of increased global contact are significant, but they must be managed wiselyto ensure sustainable and respectful international relationships.

Benefits of Increased Contact and Closer Relationships with Foreigners
  1. Economic Growth and Opportunities
One of the most significant benefits of international tourism and business is the economic growth they bring. International tourism creates jobs in hospitality, transportation, and local businesses. Cities and countries that attract foreign visitors can see a boost in their economies as tourists spend money on accommodations, food, souvenirs, and other services. Furthermore, businesses that engage in international trade can access broader markets, leading to increased sales, profits, and the potential for economic expansion. The flow of goods, services, and investment across borders also fosters innovation and the exchange of ideas, which contributes to economic development.

  2. Cultural Exchange and Understanding
Increased contact between societies facilitates cultural exchange, which enriches the lives of individuals and broadens their perspectives. As people from different cultures meet, they share their traditions, art, food, and ways of life, leading to greater mutual understanding and tolerance. For example, international tourism allows people to experience new cultures firsthand, while businesses operating in foreign markets often learn to adapt to diverse cultural practices. This kind of exchange can lead to the breakdown of stereotypes and prejudices, fostering global unity and cooperation.

  3. Improved Diplomacy and Global Cooperation
Closer relationships between countries, fostered by international tourism and business, can also lead to stronger diplomacy and international cooperation. As countries interact more frequently, they build trust and understanding, which is essential for addressing global challenges such as climate change, health pandemics, and conflicts. The growth of international networks allows for better collaboration on policies and initiatives that can improve the quality of life for people worldwide.

  4. Increased Innovation and Knowledge Sharing
The close relationships formed through international business and tourism promote innovation and knowledge sharing. When businesses work across borders, they often share technologies, management practices, and expertise. This exchange accelerates progress and enables countries to learn from each other. For example, in the field of healthcare, international collaborations can lead to the sharing of medical research, which can save lives and improve public health globally. Similarly, in technology, global business partnerships drive the development of cutting-edge products and solutions.

Disadvantages of Increased Contact and Closer Relationships with Foreigners
  1. Cultural Erosion and Homogenization
While cultural exchange can be beneficial, there is a risk that it may lead to cultural erosion or homogenization. As people from different countries interact, dominant cultures, particularly those of economically powerful nations, may overshadow local traditions, customs, and languages. This can result in a loss of cultural identity in some regions, as global brands, products, and ideas become more pervasive. For example, the spread of Western consumer culture has influenced fashion, food, and entertainment around the world, sometimes displacing indigenous cultures and practices.

  2. Environmental Impact of Tourism
International tourism, while economically beneficial, can also have negative environmental consequences. High volumes of tourists contribute to overcrowding, strain on local resources, and pollution. Popular tourist destinations can become overwhelmed by the sheer number of visitors, leading to habitat destruction, increased waste, and the depletion of natural resources. Additionally, air travel—though crucial for connecting the world—contributes significantly to carbon emissions and global warming.

  3. Economic Disparities and Exploitation
Increased international business can sometimes exacerbate economic disparities. Multinational corporations may profit disproportionately, while local businesses struggle to compete. In some cases, international companies exploit cheap labor in developing countries without providing fair wages or working conditions. This can perpetuate inequality and hinder the growth of local economies. Moreover, the increasing flow of foreign capital can sometimes lead to the displacement of local industries, which may not be able to keep up with the demands of global competition.

  4. Risk of Global Crises Spreading Faster
While increased contact can foster global cooperation, it can also facilitate the rapid spread of global crises. For instance, health pandemics can spread more quickly when people travel frequently across borders. Similarly, economic downturns in one country can have cascading effects on other economies that are interconnected through international trade and business.

My Opinion

Overall, I believe that the benefits of increased contact and closer relationships with foreigners brought about by international tourism and business outweigh the disadvantages, provided that appropriate measures are taken to mitigate the negative effects. The economic growth, cultural exchange, innovation, and global cooperation that result from these interactions are crucial for a more interconnected and prosperous world. However, the challenges, such as cultural erosion, environmental damage, and economic exploitation, need to be addressed through responsible tourism practices, sustainable business strategies, and policies that promote fairness and equity.
