The Southeast Asian Games (or SEA Games), is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants fromthe current 11 countries of Southeast Asia. Originally, the game was called South East Asian PeninsulaGames or SEAP Games, which was established by six countries: Burma(now Myanmar), Kampuchea (now Cambodia), Laos, Malaya (now Malaysia), Thailand and Vietnam. Thefirst SEAP Games was held in Bangkok from 12–17 December 1959 with the attendance of more than527 athletes. After eight editions, Brunei, Indonesia and Philippines were formally admitted to the gamesin 1977. At the same time, SEAP Games was changed into SEA games. The logo of the games alsochanges overtime. The first edition contained six rings representing six founding members and was useduntil 1997. The number of rings increased to 10 in 1999 and finally in 2011, when East Timor wasadmitted to SEA games, there have been 11 rings representing 11 members. Viet Nam first hosted theGames in 2003 and will be the host nation in 2021. The numbers of sports depends on each host nationbut make sure there are at least 22 sports including 2 compulsory sports (athletics and aquatics). SEAGames is known as the biggest sporting event in Southeast Asia, becomes the most expected by peoplethere. To sum up, SEA Games is an event that presents the solidarity of 11 countries, and promote sportssprits of people in in Southeast Asia.
