One of the most oft-used terms after the pandemic is the term “new normal.” The new normal in education is the increased use of online learning tools. The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered new ways of learning. All around the world, educational institutions are looking toward online learning platforms to continue with the process of educating students. The new normal now is a transformed concept of education with online learning at the core of this transformation. Today, digital learning has emerged as a necessary resource for students and schools all over the world. For many educational institutes, this is an entirely new way of education that they have had to adopt. Online learning is now applicable not just to learn academics but it also extends to learning extracurricular activities for students as well. In recent months, the demand for online learning has risen significantly, and it will continue doing so in the future.

As with most teaching methods, online learning also has its own set of positives and negatives. Decoding and understanding these positives and negatives will help institutes in creating strategies for more efficiently delivering the lessons, ensuring an uninterrupted learning journey for students.

Hoang Thu Tra: After the Covid-19 epidemic broke out in Europe, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to return to Vietnam quite early, when there were only about 500 cases in the UK. However, since my university still maintains online learning and teaching until the end of the second semester, I had to adapt to the time difference and arrange a reasonable study time. I find that online learning offers me a lot of opportunities that I have not seen in large lecture halls before, and that learning online still allows me to absorb the full amount of knowledge like studying at school. Firstly, online learning helps me grasp the lecture better, because the teacher will speak or record the lecture through the mic and when listening to the lecture, the sound will be very clear and easy to hear. This is much more beneficial for my listening because in large and wide lecture halls, sometimes the teacher speaks very fast but the volume is not loud enough so I can only grasp about 60% of the lecture content. Secondly, in online classes, in addition to Zoom calls, teachers often record lectures and upload them to the school's intranet, so I can easily review the lectures at any time. everywhere. However, studying online also presents me with some challenges. Since I returned to Vietnam, I had to experience time zone difference while studying online. My classes take place in the UK time zone, so I usually have to study between 18.00–23.00 every day. Besides, we have a lot of group exercises. Since I am the only international student, I will have to follow the schedule of the native speakers in the group. That's why there are days when I have to stay up until 3.00 am to do group work with my friends. StudyUK101: How has your university supported students during the Covid-19 pandemic? Hoang Thu Tra: I realize that my university has taken many positive measures to support students during the epidemic season. The first is academically, the school has made the decision very urgently to move all exams and assignments online so that students can plan to return home soon for their own safety. Moreover, the teachers are also very understanding of the circumstances of each student. I myself, after returning to Vietnam, had to be isolated for 14 days at a military school, where the internet signal was very weak. Therefore, the teachers made it possible for me to submit some late assignments after I finished the isolation. Besides, the school is also very concerned about the physical and mental health of students during the epidemic season. Every day at exactly 16.00 o'clock, the university sends emails to all students to update the news about the epidemic, how to prevent the epidemic effectively, how to protect themselves, with words of encouragement and encouragement. The school also regularly posts interviews or isolation stories of students on media channels so that students can share more with each other. StudyUK101: What advice do you have for those who are studying in Vietnam and are planning to study in the UK in the near future? Hoang Thu Tra: I think even during the epidemic season, the education system in the UK still maintains its essence, which is quality assurance, dedicated, thoughtful, civilized and professional. Therefore, I think that even with online learning, the quality of education is still relatively complete and gives students a lot of value. Moreover, all universities in the UK in particular and the UK in general are making great efforts to prevent the epidemic so that life can soon return to a normal trajectory. So, if you are intending to study in the UK in the near future, be optimistic and believe in your plans. Moreover, people can join groups or regularly update news in newspapers and social networks to capture the latest information on visa procedures, university's school year implementation plans, the situation of epidemic developments in the UK, or the time of airport opening
