Tet is the most important and popular holiday in Vietnam. It is known as Lunar New Year holiday in Vietnam. Tet always takes place around late January or February. Before Tet, many Vietnameses often come back home and reunite with their family. They prepare to cook traditional foods such as Chung Cake (which make from glutinous rice, mung beans and pork), some diffirent dried candied fruits, pickled onion, etc… Moreover, they both clean and decorate their house with peach or apricot blossoms and kumquat trees. The air of Tet holiday is extremely busy and eventful. During Tet, Vietnameses often visits their relatives and temples or pagoda to pray lucky and happiness. People have many greetings each other. The traditional greetings are “An khang thịnh vượng” (security, good health and prosperity), “Chúc mừng năm mới” (happy new year) or “Vạn sự như ý” (many myriad things go according to your will). Specially, people can receive lucky money from others as a way to give them wishes for the new year. Another activities can occur such as play cards, get together after a busy year, return to their native village,… There is a funny things that everybody always try to say many good thing at Tet. To me, this is an important festival. I really enjoy it.

Tet is the biggest traditional festival in Vietnam. This is an opportunity for people to enjoy a happy and relaxing period of time with their family and friends. There are some differences between Tet in the North and the South of Vietnam. In the North, the traditional food of Tet is Chung cake – a rectangular sticky rice cake with meat, which is wrapped in phrynium. People usually buy the cakes with some cherry blossom branches as a symbol of Tet to decorate their houses. In the South, people consider apricots and Tet cakes are the symbols of Tet. Tet cake is also made from sticky rice, and the inside can be sweet beans, bananas, or even meat. On New Year’s Eve, most families gather together to have a warm dinner and a traditional ritual in order to commemorate our ancestors. On the first day of New Year, youngsters will give their best greetings to oldsters and receive lucky money. In the rest time of Tet, people can go to pagodas to pray for good things, peace, and health. Tet is an important occasion for families and friends to be together after a year of hard work, and it can motivate people to try harder in the next year.
