Of course not in my view, if you need a super-fast response and it simply can’t wait, ask yourself would you pick up the phone and call them on a Sunday - I doubt it, so your email is just another form of conversation, but why do some still persist?
“We are always working, aren’t we?” Sending emails 24/7/365 is acceptable, well apparently it's now called outdated.
Employees need a break, research shows that only 2% of us never work weekends or nights. A staggering 52% receive business information round the clock, including weekends, 53% will leave the family meal to deal with business calls. We have programmed ourselves to accept this as normal.
The good news is most people, 64% have a certain level of etiquette and only work with people during personal time, when they feel its necessary and try to respect boundaries. However, a staggering 36% would feel no shame in sending an email or text whilst a person was at a wedding or a funeral.
So what is the etiquette? You should never call or email outside normal business hours — before 8am or after 6pm. However, if you know that a person's work hours are different you can assume they are also working.
Emails to never send over the weekend:-
