First thing, first
Being victim of Scams, frauds has nothing to do with how knowledgeable, intelligent or smart you are. It is a matter of emotional manipulation. I am not saying not knowing basics would be a good idea, maybe your rationality might still realize.
I am not smartest person in the room , but I work for the bank, was pursuing my masters, a brave immigrant who came to US by herself with no money, and never got financoal assistance from family, friends or government. I was able to pay my own masters, I saved that much, with all my hard earned money. But guess what?
There was a time I was having very hard time, moving in and out to different place, stress at work, health issues, and I was alone and lonely. In short, Iwas not at my best. And I gave my hard earned $5200 to the scammer. It happens, I am sharing the amount so that people who are also victim don't feel alone. They are manipulators, it is a skill you need to practice, learn that normal good person doesn'the make effort to learn.
One thing for sure: the hardest part is persuading the vicTim to trust their legitimacy which happens during the first minute of talk or first sentence of email etc. That's why they create an atmosphere of urgency and need for immediate action. Once you start to believe you should act, you don't think and simply follow orders and just act. The amount is irrelevant, they get 1dollar or a million. That's a matter of their skill and situation, basically a bit of luck.
So, dear victims, don't feel ashamed , but LEARN from it. Being victim once , losing 1000 is better than not learning and losing tens of times 100 over lifetime.
I knew I didn't have much experience in life and in US, but still didn't expet myself to fall for scam so badly. That was more than 2 months of my hard earned money. I didn't buy starbucks, pizza. I bought rice, chicken on sale, and saved that way to pay for my education. And trash your own 2 months of hard work, time and effort. But, I moved on
