It may seem unbelievable, yet it is quite possible that the days of the secretary are going to an end. There has evidence to suggest that professional people such as doctors, lawyers and managers are dealing with correspondences personally rather than having a secretary to do it. And the reason is simple: modern technology.
 
Until recently, secretaries were extremely useful for typing letters to customers and clients, for arranging meetings and dealing with travel arrangements. Replying the telephone was also others of their major responsibility. However, with the introduction of e-mail and mobile phones, managers can be able to do more and more of these activities on themselves. Many companies currently have less secretaries than they had five years ago. However, unemployment does not appear to have increased as a result. Rather, secretaries are finding new positions like personal assistants and even managers themselves.
