An English engineer became a K-pop star

K-pop - or Korean pop music - is one of the most popular kinds of music in South Korea, and its popularity has been growing worldwide in recent years. Harry Anderson, a former mechanical engineer in Bristol, has become a star in the birthplace of K-pop after his appearance in a Korean TV show spread quickly on the Internet.

Three years ago, Harry went to South Korea to join a popular singing programme called "Born to be a star." The video of him singing a Korean pop song was shared rapidly online and had millions of viewers. "When I woke up the next morning, I got messages from hundreds of people who I don’t know," said Harry.

Then many famous Korean singers started to sing the song in his style. Harry also got an interview with a Korean magazine and appeared on the Korean television news. "Many people said that I had brought something new to the song. Others thanked me for sharing Korean culture to the world," Harry told the KBS news.

Harry's family, on the other hand, didn't believe in his success. "I was a shy boy who always dreamt of standing on a big stage in front of hundreds of people. But my father wanted me to get a regular job and have a normal life. That’s why I became an engineer. But I have always wanted to sing," Harry said. So he invited his family to South Korea and showed them his life as a star. "I am just really proud when I see my family cheering for me when I am on stage," Harry said.

Harry continues to develop his career in South Korea. He is planning to release an album with all the songs he wrote in Korean and hold his first solo concert next year.
