**A Memorable Visit to the Ancient Citadel**

Last summer, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Ancient Citadel of My Son, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Vietnam. This place is renowned for its impressive Cham architectural ruins and rich history that dates back to the 4th century. As a history enthusiast, I was thrilled to explore this ancient site and learn more about the Cham civilization.

As soon as we arrived, I was struck by the lush greenery surrounding the citadel. The trees swayed gently in the warm breeze, creating a serene atmosphere that felt almost mystical. Walking towards the entrance, I could see the remnants of towering stone structures partially covered in vines, a reminder of the passage of time. The ticket booth was simple, not detracting from the natural beauty and historical significance of the site.

After purchasing our tickets, we followed a winding path that led us deep into the heart of the citadel. The first temple we encountered was the Tháp Chăm, with its intricate carvings that depicted deities and mythical creatures. I was amazed by the craftsmanship of the Cham builders, who created such detailed work without the modern tools we have today. Each carving seemed to tell a story rich in symbolism and cultural significance.

As our guide shared fascinating tales about the Cham people, I could feel the weight of history all around me. He spoke of the citadel's role as a religious and political center, where kings would pray to the gods for prosperity and victory in battle. I imagined what life must have been like during the height of the Cham civilization, with vibrant ceremonies and bustling marketplaces.

As we continued to explore, I came across a large stone wall that had withstood the test of time. I placed my hand on the cool surface, feeling a connection to the people who once inhabited this land. It was a humbling experience, knowing I was walking in the footsteps of ancient rulers and artisans.

One of the highlights of my visit was witnessing a traditional dance performance scheduled at the site. Dancers adorned in colorful costumes gracefully moved to the rhythms of traditional music, telling stories of love, war, and heritage through their art. The performance brought the history of My Son to life in a way that words alone could not.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the ancient ruins, I reflected on my experience. This visit was not just a journey through a historic site; it was a deep dive into a culture that has shaped Vietnam's history. Leaving My Son, I felt a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to connect with the past and appreciate the enduring legacy of the Cham civilization.

This experience reminded me of the importance of preserving history for future generations. The Ancient Citadel of My Son is not just a collection of stones; it is a testament to human creativity and resilience. I left with a newfound appreciation for my own culture and history, and a desire to explore more of the world’s historical treasures.

My Visit to the Ancient Citadel

Last summer, I had the opportunity to visit the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long in Hanoi, Vietnam, a historical site that is not only beautiful but also rich in cultural significance. The citadel, which dates back to the 11th century, was the political center of several Vietnamese dynasties. It was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2010, and this made me even more excited to experience it firsthand.

When I arrived at the citadel, I was immediately struck by the majestic gates and the vast open space. The site is divided into several sections, including the ancient royal palace, temples, and even a museum that houses artifacts from the time of the dynasties. As I walked along the pathways, I could feel the weight of history surrounding me.

One of the most memorable parts of my visit was the visit to the King’s Palace. The palace grounds were beautifully preserved, and I imagined what life must have been like for the emperors and their courtiers centuries ago. The intricate architecture of the buildings, with their delicate carvings and red-tiled roofs, left a lasting impression on me.

Another highlight was the archaeological site where excavations are still being conducted. I had the chance to see ancient relics such as pottery, coins, and tools that were uncovered during the dig. This part of the citadel made me appreciate the depth of Vietnam's history and the efforts to preserve and learn more about it.

As I stood there, surrounded by the ancient walls of the citadel, I felt a sense of connection to the past. It was as if I could almost hear the echoes of history in the air. The experience was not just a tour; it was a journey back in time, allowing me to appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Vietnam.

Visiting the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long was an unforgettable experience. It not only taught me about the country’s history but also inspired me to learn more about the preservation of historical sites. I hope to visit many more such places in the future to further deepen my understanding of our shared heritage.

Located 70km to the northwest of downtown Ho Chi Minh City, the Cu Chi Tunnels take visitors back to the years of hardship yet also full of heroism of the nation. Although travelers may have heard a lot about the tunnels, it is not until they come here and see it with their own eyes that they can fully appreciate the uniqueness and interest of this steel land.

The Cu Chi Tunnels do not possess the magnificent stature of ancient wonders like the Pyramids, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, or Angkor Wat, but it is a monumental construction with over 200km of tunnels sprawling like a spider’s web underground. Here truly is a unique wonder of war. It embodies the profound depths of hatred and the resilient, unyielding spirit of the "steel land," one of the brilliant symbols of the heroism of the Vietnamese people.

However, the real stories from the tunnels surpass human imagination. Just by crawling through a segment of the tunnel, you will understand why tiny Vietnam could triumph over a larger and wealthier enemy. Here, one can grasp how Cu Chi, a poor land, was able to confront for 21 continuous years a vastly outnumbering, battle-hardened army equipped with modern and advanced weapons and machinery. In this seemingly imbalanced confrontation, the people of Cu Chi achieved a glorious victory.

Leaving the tunnels, you will arrive at the Ben Duoc Memorial. Admire the three-arch gate, the stele house, the nine-story tower, and the main shrine with its beautiful traditional architecture harmonizing with nature. Particularly noteworthy is the Memorial for soldiers and compatriots, which features an architecture unique to the nation, modern and solemn. Within the memorial, the names of 44,357 fallen soldiers who died on the battlefield of Saigon - Cholon - Gia Dinh during the liberation struggles to protect the homeland and fulfill international duties are inscribed on over 632 slabs of granite. In front of the memorial, there is a stone inscription by poet Vien Phuong. The Ben Duoc Memorial is a distinctive construction of the historic site, built from the heartfelt aspirations of officials, soldiers, and the people of the nation, reflecting the Vietnamese tradition of "drinking water and remembering its source." With the value and significance of its achievements forged by the blood and efforts of thousands of soldiers and compatriots, the Cu Chi tunnel base has been recognized as a National Historical and Cultural Monument by the Ministry of Culture and Information.

Not only can you visit the historical site, but you can also practice shooting and enjoy special dishes of Cu Chi at the Cu Chi Tunnels restaurant, set in a breezy location by the poetic Saigon River. Leaving the Cu Chi Tunnels, you will undoubtedly carry with you many feelings. It is the admiration for the intelligence, flexibility, and creativity of the people of Cu Chi in designing the tunnel system; the delight in acting as a soldier, firing real weapons, and moreover, the emotion felt in paying homage to the heroes who fell for today's independence and freedom... These are the historical values that will be deeply imprinted in the hearts of those who have ever visited the Cu Chi Tunnels.
