Soyuz ("Union") is a Russian spacecraft used to send astronauts into space. Over the course of many improvements, the Soyuz has become the longest-serving spacecraft ever. It has brought astronauts to space stations such as Salyut, Mir and now the International Space Station. The Soyuz was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome spaceport in Kazakhstan on a Soyuz rocket. There is always at least one Soyuz on the ISS that acts as an escape train for station astronauts in the event of an incident. The Soyuz landed on the flat prairie of Kazakhstan. Progressive Carrier (Progressive) is also of Russian design based on Soyuz.
In addition to the two crews killed in the first five years, no more casualties have been reported. Soyuz vessels have been and will continue to be improved to improve safety and reliability. It promises to continue to be used in the long run of this century
