While I am still in my beautiful years of youth, I choose to live a useful life instead of a lazy one. Many young people just want to go home and watch TV, or they love to spend their free time to sleep without doing anything else. For me, I decided to become a volunteer in order to help other people with my ability. Last summer, my school volunteer group visited a nursing home for the elderly artists. When we came, those seniors were very happy because they might see us as their grandchildren. After greeting them, we started to clean up the inner house and the yard. We brought out the old broken stuffs then painted the wall in a brighter color. Another group made sure the yard was free of trash and pile of unnecessary things. We also planted a tree in the corner of the yard so people in the nursing home could have some shade on the sunny day. There were about a hundred of us, so we finished all of our tasks in just one day. In the evening, some of the old ladies cooked some delicious dishes for us, and we had a small party before we headed home. We give them the presents that we had prepared in advance, and we even performed some of our silly dancing and singing skills. They also prepared a small play for us, and we felt that their passion for art was never faded. We had great time together, and the nursing had a better appearance thanks to all of our efforts. When we packed our stuffs to go home, the attachment of those seniors even made some of us cry. We promised to pay a visit soon to bring more happiness and vitality to that place. The volunteer trip was beyond my expectation, and I realized that life is only meaningful when I know how to help people around me.

In Vietnam, almost everyone, has been a volunteer work and I have too. At my age, I have not been donate blood so I often donate books, toys and clothes for street children and homeless people. I often do this work with my mother. Latest here on Sunday, I with my mother was used to donate books and clothes for a charity organization. In here, I met the orphans children. I played with them. Then I gave candies to them. They were all very happy. Some people think doing volunteer work is waste of time but in my opinion, doing volunteer work help me relax after school and it help me healthy. When I doing this work, I feel very happy to bring happiness to them.

Một số người nghĩ rằng làm công việc tình nguyện là lãng phí thời gian nhưng theo ý kiến của tôi, làm công việc tình nguyện giúp tôi thư giãn sau giờ học và nó giúp tôi khỏe mạnh. Khi tôi làm công việc này, tôi cảm thấy rất vui khi mang lại hạnh phúc cho họ

Volunteer is one of Vietnam’s long-standing activities contributing effectively to community development, capacity building and poverty reduction. Volunteer activities are taking place vibrantly with every passing day, not only do they bring positive results from specific volunteer programs but they also conduce to generate and raise awareness for a large number of people in Vietnam.
The key point of volunteer activities is a part of a global effort to ensure that every child has access to a quality education – it’s a direct route out of poverty. In addition, the activities will be the main distributor of connecting the people, improving the living standard, and helping the poor around countries.
However, the volunteer activities of Vietnam are very diverse in both content and form. In fact, these volunteer activities remain separate and spontaneous; information on volunteer activities is not accessible with majority seeking information about specific volunteer programs that interest them due to the lack of coordinating network among volunteer clubs and organizations.
With a tradition of solidarity and compassion, all Vietnamese people profoundly understand that, to rise from a low starting point, each individual has to make every effort to promote internal strength by volunteering to help the needy and contribute to the development of communities and country.
