The Tran Temple Festival happens every year from the 15th to the 20th of the eighth month in the lunar calendar. In even years, it's a bigger deal than in odd years. But even before the official festival, folks from other places excitedly join the Tran Temple pilgrimage. People hope for good things and prosperity as they enter the temple courtyard with colorful flags representing nature's elements. The main flag in the middle has the word "Tran" sewn in Chinese characters, formed by combining "Dong" and "A."
The ceremony is serious, with a parade from nearby shrines offering incense and respect to the 14 Tran kings. The festival's fun part includes activities like cockfighting, martial arts shows, wrestling, lion dances, card games, bridge crossing, singing, and flower dances. These unique cultural activities make the Tran Temple Festival interesting for visitors from different places. This tradition, echoing old royal customs, shows Nam Dinh's rich culture and care for people, making all Vietnamese proud.
