Pham Tuan is a Vietnamese astronaut who made history as the first person from Vietnam to travel to space. He was born on February 14, 1947 in Quoc Tuan, Vietnam. Pham Tuan joined the Vietnam People's Air Force in 1965 and later became a pilot.

In 1979, Pham Tuan was selected to be a part of the Intercosmos program, a Soviet space program that allowed astronauts from allied countries to travel to space. On July 23, 1980, he flew aboard the Soyuz 37 spacecraft to the Salyut 6 space station, becoming the first Vietnamese person in space.

Pham Tuan's historic spaceflight lasted for 7 days, 20 hours, and 42 minutes. He conducted scientific experiments and observations while in space, and his mission was considered a great success.

After returning to Earth, Pham Tuan continued his career in the Vietnam People's Air Force and later served as a deputy director of the Vietnam Air Force's Political Department. He is a national hero in Vietnam and is celebrated for his achievements in space exploration.
