In the United States today, more than half of mothers of young children work, compared with about one-third in the 1970s. Women are in the workforce not just for their career satisfaction but also because of income.
In many families today, mothers continue to go to work early because they have a career that they have spent many years developing some women return to work right after giving birth because they know that most employers are unsympathetic to working mothers who wish to take time off to be with their young children.
Some people still think that a "good mother" is someone who... works to stay home with her children. however, there is no scientific evidence that children are harmed when their mothers work. An emotionally well-adjusted, well-loved and well-cared-for child will thrive regardless of whether the mother is working away from home.
In most families with working mothers, each person plays a more active role in the family. the kids tend to look for each other and help each other in other ways. The fathers as a breadwinner are more likely to help with household chores and raising children. These positive outcomes are most likely to occur when a working mother feels appreciated and supported by her family, friends, and coworkers.
