Using the following information, perform a breakdown and workload computation to predict how many salespersons XYZ Inc. will need to service their customers. Forecasted sales for next year are $110 million and an average salesperson sell $9 into 41 “A”, 105 “B”, and 225 “C” customers. “A” accounts are visited weekly, “B” accounts monthly, and “C” accounts every other month. Salespersons are required to make four calls per day and be in field four days per week. Because of vacation, training, and holidays, each salesperson work 48 weeks a year. In addition to calling upon existing accounts, salespersons are assigned a quota of calling upon 10 percent new accounts and devoting 5 percent of their time to information gathering duties.

To compute the workload and predict the number of salespersons needed, we need to calculate the number of calls each salesperson will make and the time required for each type of customer.

1. Calculate the total number of calls per year:
- For "A" customers: 41 customers * 4 calls per week * 48 weeks = 7,872 calls per year
- For "B" customers: 105 customers * 1 call per month * 12 months = 1,260 calls per year
- For "C" customers: 225 customers * 1 call every other month * 6 months = 1,350 calls per year

2. Calculate the total number of new accounts to be called upon:
- 10% of the total number of calls per year: (7,872 + 1,260 + 1,350) * 0.1 = 1,848 new accounts to be called upon

3. Calculate the total time required for information gathering duties:
- 5% of the total number of calls per year: (7,872 + 1,260 + 1,350) * 0.05 = 743.1 hours for information gathering duties

4. Calculate the total time required for each type of customer:
- For "A" customers: 7,872 calls * 15 minutes per call = 118,080 minutes = 1,968 hours
- For "B" customers: 1,260 calls * 30 minutes per call = 37,800 minutes = 630 hours
- For "C" customers: 1,350 calls * 60 minutes per call = 81,000 minutes = 1,350 hours

5. Calculate the total time required for new accounts:
- 1,848 new accounts * 30 minutes per call = 55,440 minutes = 924 hours

6. Calculate the total workload per salesperson:
- Total time required for all types of customers: 1,968 + 630 + 1,350 = 3,948 hours
- Total time required for new accounts: 924 hours
- Total time required for information gathering duties: 743.1 hours
- Total workload per salesperson: 3,948 + 924 + 743.1 = 5,615.1 hours

7. Calculate the number of salespersons needed:
- Forecasted sales for next year: $110 million
- Average sales per salesperson: $9 million
- Number of salespersons needed: $110 million / $9 million = 12.22 (rounded up to 13)

Therefore, XYZ Inc. will need 13 salespersons to service their customers based on the workload computation.
