The most important festival in Scotland is the Edinburgh Festival, which is held each year in the summer months. It is actually quite a hard festival to define because it is an arts festival with no entry criteria, and it changes in length and content each year. However, I think this is apt because art should not be strictly defined and regulated.

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and this festival is its biggest event. In fact, it is the biggest arts festival in the world and the third biggest ticketed event on the planet, after the World Cup and the Olympics. This has brought great attention to Scotland and has been a huge contributor to the culture and economy of the country.

The festival is a collection of performances that take place in different venues across the city. These could be almost any style of art, but stand-up comedy is probably the most common one. You also see a lot of musicians, dancers, and other performers.

People travel from all across the world to watch or participate, and many great performers used this platform to launch their career. As such, it is a very famous and respected festival. However, among local people it is actually considered a good time to leave the city as it can become unpleasantly crowded.

Task1:

So, let me tell you about an amazing festival in my country called Tết. Tết is the Vietnamese New Year, and it's one of the most significant and vibrant celebrations in Vietnam.

Tet usually takes place in late January or early February, following the lunar calendar. The festival lasts for several days, and it's celebrated by Vietnamese people all around the world. Families gather together, and the atmosphere is filled with joy and excitement.

One of the highlights of Tết is the traditional food. Families prepare a wide variety of delicious dishes, including sticky rice cake, spring rolls, and sticky rice. These dishes have symbolic meanings and are believed to bring good luck and blessings for the upcoming year.

Another important aspect of Tết is visiting relatives and friends. People make visits to their loved ones' homes, exchange warm wishes, and give lucky money in red envelopes to children and unmarried adults. It's a time for reuniting with familyhonoring ancestors, and strengthening bonds within the community.

As for me, I love Tết! It's my favorite time of the year. I enjoy the festive atmosphere, the delicious food, and the joyful reunions with my family and friends. It's a time of happiness, gratitude, and hope for the future. The traditions and customs associated with Tết bring a sense of cultural pride and unity among Vietnamese people.
Task 2 :

What culture is it?

It is Halloween day, which is celebrated by Italy, Sweden, Poland and foreign countries. Mostly, Halloween is celebrated on 31 October every year. It seems totally different from our country.

How do you know about it?

As I said above when I went to Japan for a trip with my friends. One day in Japan we got ready to explore one of the famous streets in Japan. On that day I just felt frightened by seeing the person who dressed up like Halloween. After a while, I saw that many of them were dressed up like cartoon characters. Then, only we came to know that they were celebrating Halloween day.

What differences there are between that culture and your own?

It is completely different for us, to be frank, here we don't know that there is a day for Halloween to be celebrated. Here our kids only know about the various kinds of cartoon characters.

Explain why you like that foreign culture.

It seemed completely different and I enjoyed it a lot on that day. I have met various kinds of cartoon characters. Even some characters I have not seen before. The whole place was filled with lights, balloons, and cartoon characters are also designed in the shape of balloons.

Conclusion:

They were allotted a specific day to celebrate cartoon characters. To be said, here in our country, we do not celebrate children's day as much as they celebrate. But they are celebrating some unique days like Halloween days.

The festival that I particularly enjoy is the Dragon Boat Festival, which is celebrated in China. This festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, which usually occurs around June 22nd. During this festival, people engage in various activities, including dragon boat racing, eating traditional foods like zongzi (glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves), and honoring the memory of the ancient poet Qu Yuan. The Dragon Boat Festival holds great cultural and historical significance in China. It is a time for families and communities to come together, bond, and enjoy the traditional festivities. Personally, I appreciate the opportunity to bond with loved ones and indulge in the delicious traditional foods during this festival. Additionally, the three-day holiday associated with the Dragon Boat Festival provides a welcome break from the routine and allows for relaxation and enjoyment with family and friends. The festival is important in China as it not only preserves cultural traditions but also fosters a sense of unity and togetherness among the people. The historical and cultural significance of the festival, combined with the joyous celebrations, makes it a cherished event for many in China
. Overall, the Dragon Boat Festival is a time of joy, togetherness, and cultural celebration that I deeply enjoy and look forward to each year.

Task 3:
One interesting tradition in my country is the celebration of the Lunar New Year, also known as Tet in Vietnam. Tet is the most important festival in Vietnamese culture, marking the beginning of the lunar calendar year.

Tet originated from the agricultural society in Vietnam, where it was celebrated as a way to welcome the arrival of spring and to pray for a prosperous year ahead. The traditions associated with Tet are deeply rooted in Vietnamese folklore and beliefs, including rituals to honor ancestors, cleaning and decorating homes, and visiting family and friends.

Tet occurs annually on the first day of the lunar calendar, usually falling between late January and mid-February. The celebration typically lasts for several days, with preparations beginning weeks in advance. During Tet, streets are adorned with colorful decorations, and families gather to enjoy special meals together, exchange gifts, and participate in various cultural activities.

I find Tet to be a fascinating tradition because it encompasses so many aspects of Vietnamese culture, including history, folklore, and family values. It's a time when people come together to reconnect with their roots, express gratitude, and look forward to the future. The festive atmosphere, delicious food, and meaningful rituals make Tet a truly special and memorable occasion for everyone involved.
