Good News for the Environment!
We read a lot of stories every day about the bad things happening to the environment. There are many bad things, but there is also some good news!
Here are four things from last year:
- Many countries are using less coal and oil to generate electricity. If we continue at the current rate, we will stop using coal and oil by 2050.
- A British company is now producing a type of plastic from seaweed. If you bury a bottle made from seaweed plastic in the ground, it will break down naturally without harming the soil.
- We can generate electricity from solar and wind energy. Now scientists think they can generate electricity from trees! If they succeed, it will really be "green" electricity!
- We all use batteries all the time, but they harm the environment if buried in the ground. So, the interesting news is that a company is producing a cheap battery from sea salt. It has four times the capacity of regular batteries and is safe to bury in the ground.
Not everything is bad!
